With the current state of the world there are a lot of people who are in need of help. Traditional ways of volunteering are difficult because of stay-at-home orders and donating money isn’t easy for everyone to do in such financially straining times. One thing that EVERYONE can do is show their support for those who are on the frontlines. The people who are manning our hospitals, grocery aisles, garbage trucks, fire stations, research labs, and so many other essential parts of our communities are making sacrifices for us and it couldn’t be easier for us to show them our support.
To all the frontline heroes - we thank you! .

On April 9th, 2011, the Lambda Kappa Chapter of Sigma Chi was founded at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Over the last nine years our brothers have done some incredible things. Our brothers have been leaders here in the RIT community and in their careers. We have formed strong bonds with many fraternities and sororities on campus. We have raised tens of thousands of dollars for the Huntsman Cancer Institute and other great causes and we have won multiple Peterson awards. Wherever our brothers are quarantined today, they’re celebrating. Here’s to another nine years. In Hoc Signo Vinces. -

Today we held our Chapter meeting on Zoom and brothers logged in from all over the country! The platform has become the norm for brothers who attend their classes online and attend other similar meetings. Zoom meetings certainly aren’t the same as regular chapter but as you can imagine it was great to see everyone’s faces again and we can’t get behind on our chapter’s affairs. .

There is no doubt that this is a difficult time fo

There is no doubt that this is a difficult time for everyone. Brothers in our chapter are missing out on things such as Spring Formal, Initiation, Derby Days events, and for some brothers, their commencement ceremony. Some of our friends and family are unable to work. While many things have been cancelled, we still have so many things to look forward to in the future. At some point, hopefully in just a few months, we will be able to enjoy privileges like these again.
.
For now, we‘re all counting on you to do the right thing. Stay inside. Wash your hands. Be kind. Practice social distancing. Don’t buy more than what you need.
.
We are looking forward to all the fun things we will get to do with our friends and family when the time is right.

Brothers Will Spicer, Grant Franko, and Ryan Devoe were at the Northeastern Greek Leadership Association conference in Baltimore, Maryland this weekend! The RIT Greek GPA was the highest above the all undergraduate GPA in our region! We’re excited to hear about what our brothers learned this weekend when they return later today. .

Brothers Tristan Turner, Dylan Paone, Sam Walker,

Brothers Tristan Turner, Dylan Paone, Sam Walker, and Matt Race went to Province, a conference for Sigma Chi chapters in our region today. They were lucky enough to meet one of the members from our charter, Jared Lagermasini, who is one of the men who were such a big part of the founding of our chapter. We are thankful for all the conversations we had during the conference today and for @sigmachibinghamton’s hospitality in hosting this event. .

Today many of our brothers are busy trying to find their place in the workforce at the Career Fair - they’re killing it! Brothers even got to talk to alumni Anthony Giallella, who was at the career fair recruiting for his company. Multiple brothers have already gotten asked back for interviews and others are well on their way to finding a co-op. We’re excited for all the opportunities brothers may have from this career fair.

This week’s Brother of the Week goes out to the witty Ryan Devoe. Ryan’s logical and composed approach to any challenges he faces makes it no surprise that Ryan has recently been moving up in the world. He was recently elected as the President of the Interfraternity Council as well as being elected as Annotator in our chapter. Ryan is also the lead receptionist at RIT Production Services. In addition to all of these important leadership roles, Ryan is also a dedicated Software Engineering student. Being a big tech guy, it’s not uncommon to hear Ryan shouting “Hey Alexa!” at his Amazon Alexa at odd hours. Ryan hails from Dallas, Texas, and somehow he ended up here in Rochester, for which we’re all very grateful.

This week’s Brother of the Week goes out to Brot

This week’s Brother of the Week goes out to Brother Chris Morgan. Chris is from Horsham, Pennsylvania, and he is a second year Aerospace Mechanical Engineering major. On campus Chris is involved in Outing Club and the Paintball Team. You may have seen him at work before in the NTID Machine Shop. Chris has racked up more community service hours than any brother in the time since he has joined our chapter, and he has done some pretty cool stuff to get those hours. From refereeing Robotics competitions to repairing medical equipment in Guatemala, he certainly puts his skills to use to help others. Chris loves Sigma Chi because of how diverse our brothers are.

For our first monthly alumni spotlight we’re featuring Brother Tyler Pixley. We’ll be featuring a different alumni every month!

Brother Tyler Pixley, Alpha Class, graduated from RIT in 2013 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Marketing. He is now the Senior Digital Marketing Manager for Trane, which is a multi-billion dollar HVAC, controls and sustainability company. Tyler also got married recently.
Tyler was a member of our charter and he was in our first pledge class as a colony. He later served our chapter as the first Magister (New Member educator) and our third Consul (President.) Tyler recalls spending a majority of his time at RIT working to build our chapter. Although Tyler graduated from RIT years ago, he still has many fond memories of his time in our chapter. One of his favorite memories was when he and some other brothers spent the weekend at Brother Brendan Larrabee’s cabin in the Adirondacks, finally being able to bond together after being so preoccupied with all the work they were putting into establishing our chapter’s roots. Tyler says that weekend was when they really started their journey towards becoming brothers. Tyler still lives by the ideals of Sigma Chi and he says he always will, and the reason he chose Sigma Chi was because he felt he didn’t have to change who he was in order to become a member.

We’re very excited to bring back our Brother of the Week posts. We’ll be featuring a different brother every Thursday and sharing a little bit about what they’re up to. This Brother of the Week post goes out to our ambitious President Grant Franko! Grant is from Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, a town which has about the same amount of people as the Saunders College of Business, where Grant is a double major in Finance and Management Information Systems and is also minoring in Economics. If you thought Grant’s academic pursuits were impressive, keep reading. There aren’t a lot of things that are certain in this world, but here’s one of them: Grant Franko has a VERY busy schedule. Apparently he doesn’t have that much homework, because he still has time to be the Interfraternity Council VP of Recruitment, a Saunders Peer Mentor, a part of the Honors Program, and the President of our Chapter. But it doesn’t stop there, Grant has to make some dough somehow, so he works as a student worker and a Brick City Ambassador. Before this starts looking like Grant’s resume, I’ll wrap up this post by saying that we’re all very fortunate to have Grant as our President and whoever voted him for “Most Likely to Succeed” in high school is sounding pretty credible these days.
